My Anniversary
Thursday, May 31st, 2007Today is a special day for me. Today marks my seven year anniversary working at DSI. Seven years ago, at the age of 19, I nervously walked through the front door of DSI. I had no idea what I was going to be doing with my life and figured I would only be working here for two or three years.
During the first week I had to learn a lot. I still have my notebook with all my notes from that time. Once in a while I will flip thru it and have a good chuckle. My responsibilities in the beginning were some light typing, filing and answering the phone. As time went by I added responsibilities. Soon I was the assistant for one of the salesmen, I started doing work for the A/R department and started doing the majority of the typing for the President. After my first year more responsibilities came my way. I started doing work for the service department (downloading our barcode scanners and running reports), using newer technology I increased the production/quality of our reports and caused a reduction in our cost for reports by producing them in-house (not going to Kinko’s). Within the last two years things have changed around here. I am no longer the assistant for the salesman; however, I am now the assistant for the President (per his request). I also help out the HR department, do some photography work (I have a lot of photos of crusty/rusty pipes on my computer) and have trained the new assistant for the sales department.
DSI has been very good to me. I have received extremely generous Christmas bonuses, a raise every year, bonuses for different holidays (Assistant’s day and Halloween, which is the bosses favorite holiday) and a very unexpected extra bonus a few months ago. They have even paid for some of my schooling. I have learned so much during my time here. Not just about working in an office or working in general but how to be a better and more responsible person. I have grown a lot these last seven years and I owe a lot of that to the people I have worked with. Though with all the good times here there have been a few bumps in the road. But we have gotten over and past them. It seems weird now when I look around and I am one of the old timers here (though I am still the youngest employee). I am not sure how much longer I will be here… there really isn’t any further for me to go in the company. But I look forward to the rest of my time working for DSI and will be forever grateful to the company, my bosses and co-workers.
