Work…

Well I had a very nice surprise happen at work this week.  Now bear with me…. I have to tell this like a story.

Tuesday morning started out as a not so good day.  Once I got to work the mood got a little better.  The owner of the company was there but was heading out of town later that day.  He ended up leaving the office earlier than we thought.  A little after he was gone my boss, Kim, told me she needed to see me in her office before I left for lunch (it was about 11:15 or so).  My mind kind of started going thru things that had happened in the last week or thinking maybe I did something wrong or handled a situation wrong.  A few minutes later I walked down to her office to see if she was ready for me.  She said “Sure.  Come on in and let’s talk”.  This didn’t easy my worries any.  As soon as I shut the door and sat down she said “I don’t really want to talk… I’m just too excited!”  Then she opened her desk drawer and pulled out an envelop and handed it to me.  I could tell that it was a paycheck envelop.  I peaked inside and was caught off guard.  I looked up at Kim with wide eyes and asked “What is this for?!”  “It’s a bonus” she said “And very well deserved.”  As it turns out the owner wanted to give me something for the hard work I have done over the six and a half years I’ve been there and he was very generous.  I was totally surprised and very thankful.  The only bad thing is I have to wait until Monday to thank my boss for it.  This company has been very good to me and I am very thankful for everything I have learned and been given.  That is one of the nice things about working for a very small, family ran business, you don’t get lost in the mass of employees and your good work is appreciated.

School…

Well I had to do something this semester that I have never done… I dropped a class.  After only two sessions of my English class I just knew that my teacher and I were not meant to be.  It’s one of those situations were I knew I wasn’t going to get everything I could out of the class with this teacher.  And she was really rude and not willing to work with me and my missing a class.  And the course load was a little overwhelming with my other class stuff too.  So I decided to drop the class and take it next semester (with a different teacher).  I will also pick a two day a week class instead of the one day, four hour class.  My other class is great.  My teacher is very cool and willing to work with students.

Well this week was pretty crazy.  School started as I mentioned in my last post and work was just super busy and frustrating.  We had a pretty good year last year at work… had a lot of pretty big jobs come in.  Well this year hasn’t started off where last year ended.  We got a cancellation letter from one of the school districts that we deal with (which is a pretty big account).  My boss had been working on stuff all week to try to save the accounts and found out late Thursday that he could get a meeting with the head of maintenance for the district on Monday at 8:00 am.  Well as usual in the work world, everything finally came together at about 4:00 on Friday.  Now I usually don’t get much overtime but I worked about an hour over to get everything done before the weekend.  And I have been working on a tape that was jammed in a machine and then stepped on by one of our technicians.  We have a DVD/VCR recorder thing that we use.  The company I work for can video the water lines and we put the info on DVD for our customers.  Well I have been working on this thing since Wednesday and it’s still not on DVD.  But I think we have one more option to try on Monday.

Friday thru Sunday

So this last Friday I went out to Ionia, Michigan to visit my friend Cris for the weekend. It turned out to be a pretty relaxing weekend. The drive out there which normally takes just under two hours took a little long due to pretty heavy traffic and a lot of rain and rain spray. I finally got there a little before nine (p.m.) and we just hung out and fooled around on the computer and went to bed kind of late. We woke up and just kind of sat around and watched some stuff on TV that Cris has taped. But then we had some company. For those that don’t know, Cris and her family are in the cemetery business. Well there was a 10:00 funeral that morning and people had to come in to use the restrooms. So we greeted those that came in and waited for the service to end. Then we just kind of hung out, got some food and watched a little more TV. Since I hadn’t seen Cris’ grandpa around Christmas time he and I exchanged gifts and then Cris had to make a delivery. So the three of us (Cris, her Grandpa and I) piled into the car and drove to a funeral home. It wasn’t a very long drive and soon we were home. Cris’ grandpa decided to go lay down so Cris and I decided to go across the street and do a little shopping. We walked around the Meijers there but didn’t really find anything. Then we went to the Big Boy’s for dinner and then headed over to the Wal-Mart where I picked up a couple of movies. After getting back home Cris and I watched one of the movies, the end of the Wings game and then another movie and called it a night. We woke up the next morning to find a light dusting of snow on the ground. Her grandpa fixed breakfast and we ate that and just sat around drinking coffee and watching TV. Once noon rolled around I got ready and headed back home. The first half of my drive was a little snowy, the next quarter was a little icy and the last quarter was just wet pavement. I made good time and only saw five or six cars in the ditches. And I avoided all snow banks for those that were wondering (you know who you are)!

Monday

Well school has started for me once again. I had my English class on Monday. It’s going to be good to write again. I really need to set aside more time for writing. There is also a lot of reading to do, mostly out of my text. I am hoping to get something out of this class that will help me with my personal writing as well as all the typing of letters and memos I do at work. More and more I have been given the freedom to work on memos and letters on my own. Of course the bigger, important stuff my boss still drafts but this will hopefully help me improve on his writing as well.

Tuesday

I also have a class on Tuesdays. This is an advertising and promotions management class. I think this is going to be a very fun class. This seems to be right up my alley. I think this class will be a major stepping stone in what I want to do in the future. The only thing is I thought it was a two hour class but it turned out to be a three hour class. But I guess the extra hour will only help me out.

Just wanted to take a minute today to wish my Niece Jordan (Little J) a very Happy 1st Birthday and wish my sister-in-law Marica a very Happy Birthday as well (I think it’s her 21st!!!!! lol).  I hope both of you have a great day.

Well this weekend was a busy yet very fun weekend.  First of all my friend Cris was in town again.  We had gotten tickets (which were very good seats) to the GLI, which is a two day, four game college hockey holiday tournament played at Joe Louis Arena.  This year it was Michigan State, University of Michigan, Michigan Tech and the visiting team from Harvard.  MSU beat Harvard in the first game and U of M beat Tech in the second game.  On the second day of the tournament, Harvard beat Tech for third place and MSU went on to win over U of M.  This made me very happy, but made Cris very unhappy.  We have been to a few games between MSU and U of M and she has yet to see her team win.
